What is a Whitelist?

Minecraft's Whitelist feature is used to prevent unwanted players from joining your server. It does this by letting you allow only players you add to the whitelist join your server.

Can I password my server instead?

No. Unlike other games, Minecraft does not support server passwords. It instead uses whitelisting to prevent unwanted players from joining your server.

Using commands

Adding players to the whitelist using the console

If you watched the video above it will have gone through how to whitelist your server. Here is a quick step by step guide on how to add players:

  1. Open your server by going into ClanForge and clicking on your server's name
  2. Open the Console tab (seen in the image to the right)
  3. Type in: whitelist add PLAYERNAME

Optionally, if you are an operator you can use the command /whitelist in-game.

If successful, the console will confirm that the player was added to the whitelist.

Editing the whitelist file directly

If you want to add many names to the whitelist at once then you will want to edit the whitelist file directly. Here's how:

  1. Open your server's Configs page inside ClanForge > ServerName > Edit Profile (under Quick Links on the left-hand side)
  2. Open the file white-list.txt
  3. Add any player names you want to whitelist onto their own lines
  4. Once done, click Save & Apply at the top of the file

The server will restart and once finished your whitelist will contain the new names you added or removed.
